I was a young C-level executive working in a Fortune 100 brand. In that role, I led strategy, operations, leadership development and change management working side-by-side with some of the brightest and most successful talent and senior executives. As we all climbed the ladder, and as each of us got more successful in one area, I started to notice that the outward success came at the expense of something else.

 

For one of my colleagues, it was his health. He worked 80 hour weeks without any time to exercise, and often ate his meals alone in take-out joints on the road.

 

For another colleague, it came at the expense of having real relationships… not just seeing family at Thanksgiving. She watched as the deep relationships she had built with her friends withered away with each missed brunch or birthday trip.

 

For another, it was traveling so much that he felt he didn't have a "home", let alone a life.

 

They had one dimensional success. 

 

I didn’t want to get stuck with that, and I knew my options were to either make the leap or end up lost in a single dimension, just like my colleagues.

 

So, I left my cushy job to create a different path by starting my own business… 

 

Fast forward a couple of years to where I was leading a highly successful company. . . . Except that I was working more hours, 7 days a week: As an entrepreneur, I had recreated exactly what I tried to escape!

 

What I realized is that high achievers like you and me are wired to show up the same way no matter what environment we put ourselves in. Changing jobs, starting a business, or moving cities, we put everything we have into the priority that will move the needle (usually at the expense of everything else in our lives).

 

I had to make a SHIFT. As I looked at my business and life, I knew I wouldn't be able to achieve the success I envisioned without looking at the whole picture - my business, my health, AND my personal life.

 

By getting clear on how I define success, and focusing differently on the individual aspects of my life, I was able to create a dramatic shift in all areas, while growing my business at the same time.

 

Now, I am sharing these tips, processes, and resources to help emerging leaders like you to reverse engineer the financial, growth, and life goals you have so you too can live your definition of success.
